My name is Brittany and have been married to my husband for 2 years and have been together for a total of 7 years. The time has definitely been flying by and we've been learning new things about each other all the time! We are both believers in Christ and have been constantly growing our relationship with each other through Christ.

I was raised as a Christian and grew up in the church. My family was very active in the church as well! As a result, there were many examples displaying what a Christian marriage is supposed to look like.

"Now I want you to know that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the women is the man, and the head of Christ is God." 1 Corinthians 11:3 (Common English Bible)

Also check out the passage from Ephesians 5:22-30 which talks about husbands loving their wives just as Christ loved the church.

My belief is that husbands should have the position as being his family's spiritual leader.

What does it mean to lead?

In my opinion, a person who is a leader is looked up to for a standard of how something should be. A leader is modeled after and gives advice to those who may follow him/her.

2 Ways Husbands Display Spiritual Leadership

1. Prayer

I believe it is a great practice for husbands to pray over his family. Prayer is a very powerful tool and I believe that we should include prayer in our everyday routine. All family members should come together in prayer, couples should pray together, and we each should spend quality alone time with God and pray individually.

With husbands making prayer a priority for the family, he is showing his wife/children that they should make prayer a priority in their own lives as well.

It'll encourage his wife to continue growing her relationship with God. I believe this especially will help the children see that prayer is important and that they should be developing their relationship with God too!

2. Motivator

Husbands can help their family with spiritual growth by being a motivator to them. He can motivate them to read and study the Word and he can also lead in family devotionals. Participating in an open discussion afterwards gives everyone a chance to share their thoughts about the topic at hand and provide the opportunity to ask questions to gain a better understanding.

Whenever a family member may be going through a challenging situation, the husband can remind them that they should turn to God in prayer. He can even refer their wife/children to a scripture related to what they may be going through.

Closing Thoughts

We as wives are capable of doing the same things for our family and some of us put these things into practice just as much as husbands do. However, I believe there is such power in the husband leading his family under the guidance of God and His Word! We proudly stand alongside our husband as he leads! When there is a strong family bond and God is at the center of it all, it makes it more difficult for the enemy to wreak havoc!

If you don't feel that your family has this foundation, then it's not too late to start making adjustments. Go to God in prayer and ask Him for guidance in the way of growing your family bond through Christ! God Bless!
